| Abstract | ESIG scientist Richard Katz, along with Eric Gilleland (RAP/GSP), is developing a website that will be used as a source of information on applying the statistics of extremes to weather and climate and their impacts. Emphasis will be given to topics such as detecting trends in extremes. Eventually, access to an extremes toolkit will be incorporated into the site. This toolkit is being developed as part of the NCAR initiative on the Science of Weather and Impact Assessment. |

| "Because the pathway to sustainability cannot be
charted in advance, it will have to be navigated through trial and error and conscious experimentation. The urgent need is to
design strategies and institutions that can better integrate incomplete knowledge with experimental action into programs of
adaptive management and social learning." |
