ISSE Scientist Publishes Book
"Climate Change and Water Resources: A Primer for Municipal Water Providers."
Kathleen Miller and David Yates. Climate Change and Water Resources: A Primer for Municipal Water Providers. AWWA Research Foundation, Denver, CO, 83 pp., 2006.
This book is an educational report designed for use by the drinking water utility industry. It outlines the current state of scientific understanding regarding the potential impacts of global climate change on water utilities, including impacts on water supply, demand and relevant water quality characteristics. The Primer draws upon extensive scientific literature to provide a sound overview of the current understanding of climate change (both natural and human-caused) and its impacts on water resources. A project workshop allowed participants from the industry to provide guidance on their concerns, recent climate impacts on urban water providers and vulnerabilities to prospective climate changes. The authors worked with representatives of eleven of the participating utilities to develop case studies for the Primer.

charted in advance, it will have to be navigated through trial and error and conscious experimentation. The urgent need is to
design strategies and institutions that can better integrate incomplete knowledge with experimental action into programs of
adaptive management and social learning." |
