Hydrometeorological System for Peru. Glantz was involved with initial planning on the development of this RAP project, which is being funded by Earth System Science International (ESSI) and which intends to develop a hydrometeorological, oceanographic, and seismic measurement and prediction system to meet the needs of Peru.
The FY95 accomplishments of this project are included under the section for the Research Applications Program. Glantz has received support from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)/Mission to Planet Earth to identify the uses of remote sensing and other information on El Niño forecasting and responses in Peru. The output from this study will also be of use to the RAP studies for Peru.
Impacts of Climate on Economic Activities. Miller and Rhodes co-authored the Global Change Instruction Program Module: Weather Changes Associated with Climate Change, by Kevin Trenberth (CGD), Miller, Mearns, and Rhodes. Miller's contribution explains how the impacts of weather and climatic variability on an economic activity depend on both the types of physical effects involved and on factors affecting the capacity of producers, consumers, and public entities to manage those effects. Rhodes contributed to sections on severe weather effects and societal responses to meteorological events.
